Summary
During Fall 2026, ET&S is migrating USNH managed iPads from the JAMF management system to Microsoft Intune. This article provides information and screen shots about what you can expect as your USNH managed iPad is migrated to the Intune management system. The experience is slightly different depending on whether the iPad is primarily assigned to a single person or shared across multiple people.

How you will be informed
Various communications will be sent via email to current iPad users and departments with iPads that are required to migrate. Every effort will be made to target only those affected.
For any iPad that needs to migrate, an alert will appear in the center of the screen, letting you know that you must perform Intune enrollment to migrate that iPad. If you choose to delay until the noted deadline or enrollment does not occur by that time, the device will become unusable and the alert will persist until the migration is completed.
*For a shared iPad, the process is the same except no user sign-in is required as the iPad enrolls without any user assignment.
How-To
Task: Enroll in Intune for iPadOS 26/27 users
The following process takes about 5-10 minutes under normal circumstances. On a shared iPad it takes an additional hour or so for all required apps to be installed.
Instructions
Before you begin, ensure that:
- any sensitive data has been backed up before proceeding
- the iPad has a reliable network connection and
- the iPad has at least 50% charge or is plugged into a charger
Step 1 - An Enrollment Required alert appears in the center of the screen, telling you to enroll that iPad in a different device management service. Tap Start Enrollment to begin the process or Not Now to postpone.
Note: The enrollment option will remain available in System Settings until the enrollment is completed.

Step 2 - A Restart Required message will then prompt a device restart. Select Restart to begin.

Step 3 - After the restart, a second full-screen Device Management alert will display, noting the required enrollment date and the device's campus ownership. Confirm the campus ownership is correct for you.
- If the campus is incorrect, after you finish enrollment below, please submit a Computer and Device Support request and let us know what the campus should be. Please include the Name of your iPad found under Settings > General > About > Name.
Step 4 - Tap Enroll this iPad to continue.
Step 5 - The iPad will collect its new enrollment configuration for Intune and display an Enrollment Complete message when finished.
- If prompted to connect/reconnect to a network, sign into eduroam using your username@usnh.edu (like jbd2519@usnh.edu) and password.
- Fallback options include your respective Campus-Open network or a wired Ethernet connection (adapter required).

Outcome for a shared iPad
If you are on a shared iPad, the migration process will continue without your input. Various things will appear on the screen and apps will install over the next hour or so, after which the shared iPad has been successfully migrated to Intune for device management.
Additional Instructions for individually-assigned iPads
If you are on an iPad assigned to you alone, continue with the steps below.
Step 6 - The enrollment process should require you to set a device passcode (minimum 4 digits).
Step 7 - Immediately upon enrollment, the screen will briefly display the Home Screen with one single app - Company Portal. Company portal will launch itself and prompt you to sign in.
Step 8 - Sign in to Microsoft Intune with your username@usnh.edu (like jbd2519@usnh.edu), password, and MFA when requested.
Important: Only the iPad's primary user should sign in at this point! The only way to change the user for the iPad if someone else signs in is to wipe it and start over.

After signing in, Company Portal goes through a two-step process to complete management setup and apply device settings. Ensure the process completes successfully or the device will not be properly managed and will need to be manually configured or wiped.
Step 9 - On the "Set up University System of New Hampshire access" screen neither step has yet been completed. Click Begin.

Step 10 - The first step, Get your device managed, has been completed and has a check mark. Click Continue.

Step 11 - The second step, Checking device settings, has been completed and has a check mark. Click Done.

Outcome
You will have successfully migrated your iPad to Intune for device management.

Post-Enrollment Instructions - for ET&S Technicians
ET&S Technicians, please consult with your team lead or a member of the ET&S Endpoint Engineering Team if you need further guidance.
Step 1 - Confirm that the iPad has correct wireless certificates/profiles and is properly connecting to eduroam. New wireless profiles have been created in Intune for iPads, and devices may still retain their certificates from the October 2026 certificate transition.
Step 2 - Confirm that the iPad is checking in properly with Intune. Devices can be synced using Intune's sync function and by using the Check status feature in Company Portal (not available when an iPad is enrolled as a shared device).
Step 3 - Coordinate with Engineering immediately upon enrollment to ensure the device gets added to its proper device and app groups. If applicable, please confirm at least one app download success.
