Digital Signage with Carousel - Creating a New Bulletin from an Upload

Summary

This article will describe creating a new bulletin from uploaded content using Carousel for UNH TV. Carousel is the software behind the TV displays located in buildings in Durham and Manchester. The Carousel software allows you to control the content in a designated area of the TV screen.

NOTE: The Carousel software is used for managing "local" content only. If you wish to broadcast University-wide, follow the current process - upload content to ORCA TV

How-To

Task: Create a new bulletin from uploaded content using Carousel for UNH TV

Instructions

Step 1 - From the Zone selection area at the top of the screen in orange choose which Zone you will be creating new media.

  • The choices should be limited to either Portrait or Landscape

NOTE the dimensions below. These are important for media such as pictures to ensure they do not stretch or shrink to an illegible size.

Portrait are 380x630 (3.95" x 6.56")

Landscape are 900x630 (9.375" x 6.56')

For assistance in creating media to upload please refer to KB: Digital Signage with Carousel -How To create a basic sign using PowerPoint

Step 2 - On the Main Menu within Carousel click on the New Bulletin Icon

Step 3 - Select Uploaded

Step 4 - Using the Gray area in the middle of the screen either drag and drop your content to this area or click "browse and upload" to open a navigation window and navigate out to the saved media and select it.

Step 5 - From the chevron menu select Schedule

Step 6 - Schedule

This will allow you to define when the content should play as well for how long.

The system defaults to "Always Active," by changing this to "No," the system will prompt you to define a Start Date, End Date as well as associated Times for those dates.

Daily Availability allows you to define what days you would like the content to show on the displays.

Step 7 - Extras

Edit the details of how a bulletin will be displayed here. Often, you will not need to adjust these settings, but becoming familiar with these options is a good idea.

Display Settings

  • Is this an alert? When active, this bulletin (and any others in alert mode) will override the current channel schedule.
  • Should this bulletin repeat?
    • When active, a `Repeating Interval` box will appear allowing you to enter the number of bulletins that should appear between showings of this bulletin. BrightSign players do not support repeating bulletins.
  • Let the system decide dwell time?
    • When enabled, Carousel decides how long to show a bulletin based on the quantity of rendered text. If you disable this setting, you must enter the number of seconds to dwell on this bulletin.
  • Track bulletin impressions?
    • When enabled, each time this bulletin is displayed on a player Carousel will record the time and some data about the bulletin. A report containing this information can be downloaded in Configure -> System.
  • Use the default transition?
    • Use the default transition of Fade, or override it if you must.
  • Save for later?
    • Save a copy of this bulletin for later use when you publish it.
  • Audio Settings
    Add an audio clip?
    • Here you can select to play an audio clip when the bulletin is displayed. You can also upload an audio clip through this interface.
  • Fade the channel background audio?
    • When selected, the channel background audio will fade down for the duration of this bulletin.

Bulletin Tags

  • Type here to add or select existing bulletin tags within the system. You can see how many other bulletins are using the tag by the number shown after the tag name.

Step 8 - Once complete you can then select " Publish " at the top right in order to push this content into rotation for the displays.

Outcome

You will be able to create and publish media to the digital bulletin boards.
