Task: Creating a set of input controls where the values selected in one control limit the values listed in the next input control.
Instructions:
Input Controls can be grouped so that data listed in one Input Control is filtered by the selection in a different Input Control.
For example, suppose you have an input control for a prospective student's State and High School. If these two Input Controls were grouped, when you select a State in the first Input Control, the second control will only display High Schools in that State.
To create grouped input controls, follow these steps:
- In the Side Panel, click the Input Controls pane.
- Create the Input Controls that you want to group. In this case you would create Input Controls for State and High School. Make both controls either Document-level controls or Report-level controls. You cannot mix different types of controls.
- Click Group.
- Enter a name for the new group.
- Click Document or Report to select from a list of either document input controls or report input controls.
- Select at least two input controls.
- Click OK.
- The group is now created and displayed in the Input Controls pane.
- Save your report and test your you new group.
Additional Information
You cannot have the same input control in two different groups. If you select an input control that already belongs to another group, the other group will be reset without the selected input control, and its filter path will be modified. Also, if you add an existing input control to a group, its value is reset to "All values".
Outcome:
Your input controls are now grouped and will restrict values on related input controls.
