Content
Banner Administration (Banner 9)
Banner Administration (Banner 9)) is used by faculty and staff. The Banner Student, Financial Aid and Alumni-Development System offer a user interface that allows authorized users to view, add, modify or delete data in the Banner database. In order to access the database using the Banner Administration (Banner 9) interface an employee of PSU must successfully complete the Banner request form that is offered by Enterprise Technology & Services (ETS) in order to receive a username and password. Your supervisor will train you on how to navigate and use the system.
Banner Administration (Banner 9) Instances
There are several instances (copies of the Banner database) that exist at PSU. Each instance has a specific purpose. PSC1 is the "live" production instance and its main purpose is to store academic information on our students. The TEST instance is used for testing new features and changes to existing features of the Banner Student, Financial Aid and Alumni-Development System. Access to the Banner Student, Financial Aid and Alumni-Development System from off campus locations requires the Virtual Private Network (VPN) in order to securely transmit and receive data.
Banner Self Service
The Banner Student, Financial Aid and Alumni-Development Systems offer self-service functionality to students, alumni, faculty, and staff that allows them to view and change appropriate data. The data that can be accessed by Banner Self Service (BSS) is dependent upon the role (relationship) that a person has with PSU. For example, a person is granted the Student role upon enrollment in a PSU credit-bearing academic course. One person can possess more than one role.
Banner FAQ
What is a CRN?
CRN is an acronym for Course Reference Number. This number is a system-generated number assigned to each section of a course. Rather than entering a course number (eg. EN1200.01) students register by using the CRN associated with that course.
What is a term?
The word "term" is used in Banner to denote a semester (e.g. Fall) or an alternative session (e.g. Winterim).
