Summary
Some users would prefer to receive an e-mail notification about the status (successful or failed) of their burst instead of monitoring their bursts and schedules in InfoBurst.
While this is not a default behavior of InfoBurst, users can make use of “Actions” to send e-mail notifications regarding the status of a Burst or Schedule.
How-To
Task: Create Actions which will send e-mail notifications about the status (successful/aborted) of a Burst
Instructions
Create an Action
Add an Action to a Burst
Add an Action to a Schedule
- Log in to InfoBurst
- Navigate to the folder where you would like to save this action
- Click on the New button and select Action
- Enter in a name for the Action.
- In this example I specifically want to create an action which will e-mail me when a burst fails to run.
- Click on the “Type” dropdown menu and select “Send Email”
-
Enter in the Subject for the e-mail. The use of macros is recommended here. You can explore the available macros by clicking on the blue “M” located on the right side of the entry box for the field.
-
In this example we are using the Burst name macro as part of the subject line. This Macro will automatically change to the name of the Burst that I add this action to
-
Optional – Enter a “From” e-mail address. If left blank, the system default “From” address is USNH.InfoBurst@usnh.edu.
-
If you wish to customize this field, please note this must be in a valid e-mail address format otherwise the message will not be sent.
-
Type a message to be sent. You can also leverage macros when crafting the message to be sent.
-
If you would like, you can mark the checkbox next to “Include Activity Log” to include the Activity Log for the burst as an attachment to the e-mail. The Activity Log will provide insight as to why the burst failed.
-
Add email recipients by clicking the “+” symbol in the Email Recipients area. Multiple recipients can be added.
-
In the dialog box that opens, enter in the recipient e-mail address then click “Save”
-
Add additional recipients by clicking the “+” symbol again
-
Once you are done adding recipients, click the “Save” button located in the upper right corner
-
Navigate to the folder which contains the Burst you want to send status notifications about
-
Click on the name of the burst to open the burst on the right side of the screen
-
Click on the “Actions” tab of the burst
-
In this example, because we want to receive a notification when the burst fails/aborts, we should select the “+” symbol located in the section titled “On Abort”
-
When the new dialog box opens, select the name of the action you would like to add then click the “Select” button
-
The recipients you specified will now receive a notification when this burst fails to run.
-
Navigate to the folder which contains the schedule you want to send status notifications about
-
Click on the name of the schedule to open the schedule on the right side of the screen
-
Click on the “Actions” tab of the schedule
-
Click on the “+” symbol located in the section that corresponds to the status of the schedule you want to receive notifications about.
-
When the new dialog box opens, select the name of the action you would like to add then click the “Select” button at the bottom right of the dialog box
-
The recipients you specified will now receive a notification when the conditions for receiving the notification are met
Outcome
The recipients the user specified should now recieve an e-mail notification when the Burst or Schedule has a status that meets the conditions specified.
