Browser: Syncing Bookmarks, History, & Settings

Summary

You can sign into a web browser to sync your bookmarks/favorites, history, and settings from that browser for backup or migration to a different browser or computer. This article explains how to sync your data on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari for both Windows and MacOS users. 

 

How-To

Google Chrome

Task: To sync your bookmarks/favorites, history, and settings from Google Chrome

You will need to prepare your own Google account to use the sync feature. You may visit the Google Account Center for a new Google account.

Instructions

Step 1 - Click the "user icon"  on the top right 

Step 2 - Click the "Turn on sync..." to sign in to Chrome and enable synchronization on all devices you wish to sync

Step 3 - Choose "Yes, I'm in" to finish and enable sync, or select "Settings" if you prefer to customize your sync preferences

Step 4 - If you choose to customize your sync preferences, carefully review your settings and then select "Confirm" to begin syncing

Outcome

Your bookmarks/favorites, history, and settings are now synced between two or more Google Chrome installations.

Microsoft Edge

Task: To sync your bookmarks/favorites, history, and settings from Microsoft Edge

You can use your USNH working account or your personal Outlook account to sync on Microsoft Edge. If you're using a USNH-managed device, your USNH work account may already be signed in to the device. If you need to you can create a free, personal Outlook account at the Outlook Account Center.

Instructions

Step 1 - Click the "Three dotson the top right

Step 2 - Select "Settings"

Step 3 - Select "Profiles", then select "Sign in to sync data" and sign in with your account

Step 4 - Select "Sync"

Step 5 - Adjust sync preferences depending on your needs

Step 6 – Click the "Re-sync" at the bottom of the page 

 

Outcome

Your bookmarks/favorites, history, and settings are now synced between two or more Microsoft Edge installations.

Mozilla Firefox

Task: To sync your bookmarks/favorites, history, and settings from Mozilla Firefox

You will need to prepare your own Firefox account to use the sync feature. You may visit the Firefox Account Center for a new Firefox account.

Instructions

Step 1 - Click the "Three bars on the top right and choose "Sign in

Step 2 - Sign in and close the account preview page

Step 3 - Click the "User icon"  on the top right and select "Sync settings"

Step 4 - Adjust sync preferences depending on your needs

Step 5 - Select "Sync Now" to confirm and start syncing

Outcome

Your bookmarks/favorites, history, and settings are now synced between two or more Mozilla Firefox installations.

Apple Safari

Task: To sync your bookmarks/favorites, history, and settings from Apple Safari

You will need to prepare your own Apple ID to use the sync feature. You may visit the Apple ID Center for a new Apple ID.

Instructions

Step 1 - Select the "Apple icon"  from the top left, then select "System preferences/Settings"

Step 3 - Select "iCloud" and check Safari
