What to expect in Drupal 10

The Drupal 10 update features back-end improvements that make the editing interface more accessible for content managers, introducing a high-contrast look and minor changes to the text editor (also called the WYSIWYG editor). The changes are outlined below and shared in the accompanying video:

New Features

  • Program page meta descriptions: A "Meta Description" field has been added to all program of study pages, allowing editors to add search-engine-friendly text. This field is now required, and you will be prompted to add a description when you next edit any program of study page.
  • Styles drop-down: The "Styles" drop-down menu in the WYSIWYG editor now displays cards with examples of each style. All available styles are shown, but the ability to select styles remains conditional. For example, you must be working on a link to select a link style, or on a formatted list to select a list style. Styles are bolded for selection or grayed out if not applicable.
  • Horizontal rules: New template options make it easy to add customized horizontal rules.
  • Table tool: There is a new, easy-to-use table tool with expanded table data fields.

Additional changes to WYSIWYG tools

  • Image and Caption Settings: Now separate icons in the add media tool.
  • Link settings: Options to add, edit or remove links are now combined under one Link-it tool icon.
  • Text alignment: Options to justify or center text also are combined under a single drop-down menu.

Be on the lookout for ...

The default alignment for images added through the WYSIWYG editor have changed. In previous versions of Drupal, images were by default center-aligned. In Drupal 10, the default setting is left-aligned.

NOTE: The alignment of previously added images will only change if no alignment was set. If you find images that are left-aligned, you can change the alignment to center.
