Instructions:

Kaltura Classroom is only available on SuperTEC Windows computers. If you are using any other computer for lecture capture, you'll need to use Kaltura Capture instead.

Primary and Secondary Video Settings

There are multiple options and choices for selecting recording inputs. For example, you may select to record a screen and camera or two cameras as inputs. In the Kaltura Classroom Home Page, the default selection is the computer screen as the Primary Video and a camera as the Secondary Video. You can use the settings to configure the quality of recording, or choose a different recording input. To record only one input, you must define this input in the Primary Video settings and turn off the Secondary Video.

Configuring Your Camera Settings

Camera settings are set to the highest quality available by default, so you can just start recording. If you would like to change the camera input or other camera settings perform the following steps:

To configure your Camera Settings as the Primary or Secondary Input

  1. By default your camera will be selected as the Secondary Video. Click on the Settings icon (Secondary Video Settings) in the "Secondary Video" section of your screen. If you select the camera to be the Primary input, click on the Settings icon (Primary Video Settings) in the Primary Video section of your screen.

  2. Select the Input source (camera) you are going to record from, from the drop-down menu. If there is more than one camera connected to your PC, select the Input source you want to record from.
The optimal camera settings are defined for you automatically, however, you can change the following settings:
    1. Resolution: Recording of the highest quality is produced when the resolution is maximal. Selecting a lower resolution reduces the recording quality and the size of the resulting file.
    2. FPS (Frames per Second). We recommend using 30 frames per second. Using less frames might result in blurring of fast movements.
    3. Color Space -- Represents the image in colors.
    4. Encoder -- Select the encoder from the dropdown menu.
    5. Bitrate -- Select the bitrate.
    6. Encoder Profile - Select High, Main or Baseline
  3. You can preview all changes in the Preview Window. After completing your Camera Settings, click Back to go back to the main recording window.

The camera settings cannot be altered in the middle of the recording. It is important to make sure all your settings are complete before you start recording.

Configuring Your Screen Settings

Recording PowerPoint Slides

Recording PowerPoint slides enables viewers to easily navigate through a video by jumping to a specific slide, or by searching for text in the slide.

Kaltura Classroom can record any displayed PowerPoint Slides during the recording. Slides are added as chapters with their time stamp as part of the recording.

To record PowerPoint Slides as part of the Classroom Recording

  1. Start Recording.
  2. Open the PowerPoint presentation in Slide Show mode before or during the recording and present the slides.
  3. Each PowerPoint slide you use during the recording creates a chapter in the recording. Slides shown when recording is paused are not uploaded.
  4. End your recording.

When the recording is completed, the slides are uploaded as images and are set to chapters at their designated time stamps in the recording.

Limitations:

  • When using multiple screens, slides are only captured and recorded from the screen being recorded.
  • If PowerPoint is opened in Protected Mode, slides cannot be captured in the recording. The following message will be displayed.
"PowerPoint is running in protected mode - no slides will be captured". You may click Enable Editing and create an identical PowerPoint presentation to use with Kaltura Classroom.
  • PowerPoint Viewer is not supported in this release.

To view and edit PowerPoint slides recorded with Kaltura Classroom

Recorded slides are displayed in the menu on the player.

  • Click on any chapter to jump to the specific time in the video the slide was presented. You can also use the Search box to search for specific words in slides.
