Background

USNH has a site license for the Read&Write application from TextHelp.  Under this license, all students, faculty, and staff may use the Read&Write software on USNH-owned or personally-owned computers.  Read&Write is set of literacy utilities useful for range of uses including learning difficulties, English language learners, accessibility accommodations, reading text aloud, or just basic spelling and grammar assistance.  More information on the capabilities of Read&Write can be found on the TextHelp website 

The instructions below are for students or faculty/staff who would like to install Read&Write on their own computer. Staff and faculty who would like to install Read&Write on a USNH-owned computer can use Company Portal to install the software on Windows devices or on Mac devices.

System Requirements

Your computer meet the following requirements to use Read&Write:

  • Windows10 or newer; macOS 10.15 or newer; Linux (many versions - see download page)
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 4 GB available hard disk space 

Speakers, microphone, and sound support are required to use the speech input and playback features.

How-to

Installation

Task: Obtain and install the software on a personal device

Note: Faculty or staff who need to install Read&Write on a USNH-owned computer can use Company Portal to install the software on managed Windows devices or managed Mac devices.

Instructions

Step 1 - Go to Texthelp Read&Write For Education 

Step 2 - Click the Installation button on the page.  A new window will open.

Step 3 - Under "I don't have a product code", click Continue.

Step 4 - Select the checkbox for Read&Write, and then choose the checkbox for the desired platform and click Continue.

Step 5 - Choose the Single option and click Continue.

Step 6 - Choose the option Microsoft 365 and click Finish.

Step 7 - Click on the appropriate software installer link under 1. The software will be downloaded to your computer.  Open the downloaded file and proceed through any installation procedure that is outlined.  

 

Outcome

You have installed Read&Write on your personal device.

Activation

Task: Activate the Read&Write software.

To use the USNH license for Read&Write, you must enter the current USNH product code. This code is updated yearly and must be provided by a member of the ET&S Help Desk through an in-person interaction. If you do not activate the software, you will have full application functionality for 30 days and then will revert to basic (unlicensed) application access.

Instructions for Windows

Step 1 - Open Read&Write and click on the purple puzzle piece icon that appears at the top right of your screen

Step 2 - In the webpage that opens, click the Sign in with Microsoft button.

Step 3 - On the USNH Microsoft sign in page log in with your usual USNH username, password, and MFA as required.

Step 4 - If prompted, choose "For Business"

Step 5 - When the Read&Write toolbar appears at the top, click the three dots menu at the top right and choose "Settings"

Step 6 - Choose the last option on the left-hand sidebar, "About Read&Write". Enter the product code in the field shown, and click "Activate"

 

Instructions for MacOS

Step 1 - Before opening Read&Write for the first time, create an rtf file called ReadAndWriteAdmin.rtf using Notepad with the following two lines of text

ProductCode=XXXXXXXX
Domain=usnh.edu

Step 2 - Replace "XXXXXXXX" above with the current USNH product code provided by the ET&S Help Desk then save the file in Macintosh HD/Users/Shared

Step 3 - Open Read&Write by using the Applications folder or using Spotlight Search for "read&write"

Step 4 - Click on the purple puzzle icon at the top right of your screen

 

Outcome

You have activated Read&Write for use at USNH.

Uninstalling Read&Write

If you wish to remove Read&Write from your computer, you may do so via the Windows Programs and Features control panel, or on macOS, by dragging the Read&Write application to the trash.
