USNH subscribes to Microsoft Azure for Education to allow faculty and students to download Microsoft development software to be used for instructional purposes. These resources a focused around students in Computer Science type classes, who are studying to be Developers, Data Scientists, and AI, DevOps, Data, or Security Engineers.
About Microsoft's Dev Tools for Education program
Microsoft’s Dev Tools for Education program gives college students free access to powerful Azure cloud services and professional‑grade developer tools, making it easy to learn, build, and experiment without needing a credit card. Through Azure for Students, eligible students receive $100 in Azure credits, plus access to 25+ free products including virtual machines, AI tools, databases, and serverless functions, all designed to support coursework, personal projects, and hands‑on cloud learning. The Azure Dev Tools for Teaching offering also lets students download popular software like Visual Studio and explore resources in the Education Hub, opening the door to building apps, experimenting with AI, managing data, and participating in hackathons or class projects, all at no cost

Learning Resources for MS Dev Tools
Microsoft’s education‑focused learning resources give college students an easy way to build practical technical skills using free, high‑quality materials. Through the Azure Education Hub and Microsoft Learn, students can access curated training paths, including beginner‑friendly programming lessons, cloud fundamentals, AI and machine learning modules. These resources pair with free developer tools like Visual Studio Code and Azure for Students credits, enabling learners to immediately apply concepts in real cloud environments and build real projects as they grow their skills
Downloading Software through Microsoft Azure for Education
Software acquired through Microsoft Azure for Education is intended for currently enrolled students. Licenses and activation status are only maintained for active students.
Task: To access Microsoft Azure for Education Dev Tools
Instructions
Step 1 - On the computer where you want to install the software, open a web browser and go to: https://aka.ms/devtoolsforteaching
Step 2 - Click Sign in (blue button)
Step 3 - If prompted for an account or email address, enter your username@usnh.edu, then sign in with your USNH password and multi-factor authentication.
Step 4 - On the screen where it asks you for your information, leave the school name blank. Fill in the rest of the fields and the puzzle at the bottom.
Step 5 - You will then receive a page where you need to certify your agreement to Azure’s terms. Click “yes,” and you will be informed you are accepted as a registered student. Click “next.”
Step 6 - Click the “Get started” tab at the top and you should see a screen similar to this:

Step 7 - To view the list of available software, click the “Download software” blue button or the "Software" link on the left.
- Note: These buttons may move each time you log in, they may not be in the same location as the screen shot.
Step 8 - On the next screen you can either scroll through or search for software:
- Note: You can search for parts of a file name like Visual
- If you are unsure of which software package to download, please reach out to your instructor

Step 9 - Click on the software package you need
Step 10 - A new frame will open on the side of the screen.

Step 11 - Click the download button to download the installer software for your particular Operating System.
- Note: the files can be large and can take a long time to download. The download can timeout or fail with slower connections. If this happens, please try to download the software from a location with higher Internet speeds.
Step 12 - When the download is complete, access the file you just downloaded and click on it. Double-click to open the installation file and follow the installation instructions.
- Note: Edge and Chrome will generally download into your downloads folder or will prompt you to identify a folder. Make a note of the file name and location.
- Note: If double-clicking the file forces it to open in an unwanted application, right-click the file and open it with Windows Explorer.
