This article describes how the badges and reports works in the Canvas Attendance tool
Content
The Canvas Attendance tool must be enabled by the institution before it can be used in courses.
The Attendance tool is used to track course attendance by using the attendance setting options indicating when the student is present, tardy, absent or excused. Additionally the Badges can be added by using the Manage Badge option. Badges can be added either inside the Attendance tool which applies it to the course only or at the Admin level which applies the Badges to the account or sub-account level. New Badges created within the course attendance tool will not appear in the Attendance Report. Badges created by the Admin for the account or sub-account level do appear in the report.
The Attendance Report will list the student name and attendance activity by date. Additional columns include Timestamp and Badges which will not display any information and the Canvas support team don't have an explanation why other than this is an external tool. Badges that were added at the account or sub-account level will appear in their individual column with any assigned activity. Badges that were added by the instructor in the course will not appear in this report.
The Attendance tool is an external app and therefore Canvas will not be updating or changing the functionality.
