LAPS: Retrieving Mac LAPS Passwords (ETS Internal)

How-To

Task: Retrieve LAPS password for Mac Laptop or Desktop

Instructions

Step 1 - Log in to https://usnhjamf.jamfcloud.com using your username@usnh.edu and password. 

Step 2 - Click on Computers and then Search Inventory.

Step 3 - Enter a computer name or serial number and click "Search".

Step 4 - Click on the name of the computer on the next screen.

 Step 5 - On the right-hand side of the inventory page, look for the "Managed Local Administrator Accounts" and click on "View accounts and passwords".

Step 6 - Under Managed Local Administrator Accounts, look for jamflocaladmin.

Choose that user, and click on "View"

 

The password will be displayed and active for 2 days at which time it will be rotated (changed). 

Note: To log in as a new user (jamflocaladmin) please press "Option + Enter" at the lock screen.

Outcome

A technician can now get the LAPS password for the local administrator account for a Mac laptop or desktop.
