How-To
Task: Enabling the Canvas Attendance Tool
Instructions
Step 1 - Navigate to the desired course.
Step 2 - Go to Settings (at the bottom of the course menu (which is to the right of the Global Navigation bar)).
Step 3 - Select the Navigation tab (middle-top of the screen).
Step 4 - The Attendance link is at the bottom half of that page by default. Drag and drop it to the top of the page above the text that reads Drag items here to hide them from students.
Step 5 - Click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
Note: The Attendance tool link in the Course Menu list can only be seen by faculty. Students only see their grades for their Attendance from their grade area.
Once the Attendance tool link has been enabled it will create an Assignment called Attendance. In the Speedgrader, the instructor applies the status of Present, Late, Absent or No Mark for each class time. The grade is automatically calculated and applied to the gradebook. For excused absences, us No Mark to indicate no activity and also no grade will be applied or deducted. Badges can be created and applied to the activity in order to track more details. Badges do not apply or remove points.
