Summary

This article provides instructions for users of Apple MacOS Sequioa or iOS 18 devices who may have trouble staying connected to the USNH eduroam wireless network.

MacOS Sequoia and iOS 18 updates have made Organizational networks, including USNH eduroam, cause issues on MacBook's and iOS Devices.  Changing these two settings (below) has been helpful in resolving the problems. Note: If you have iCloud+, Private Relay will automatically turn off once “Limit IP Address Tracking” is toggled to off.

How-To

Task: Adjust settings on your MacOS device to improve connection to the USNH eduroam wireless network.

Instructions

Step 1 - Select eduroam from your wireless options.

Step 2 - Enter your <username>@usnh.edu and password associated with your email account.

Step 3 - After you are connected to eduroam, navigate to System Settings on your Mac

Step 4 - Select Wi-Fi > eduroam Details...

MacOS Settings > Wi-Fi > eduroam Details...

Step 5 - Set “Private Wi-Fi address” to Fixed

  • A fixed Wi-Fi address prevents your device's MAC address from rotating while connected to USNH's eduroam, which always needs to know the device’s MAC address.
  • However, while connected to other networks, the MAC address will freely rotate so the user can still utilize the privacy setting on those other non-university networks.

Step 6 - Toggle “Limit IP address tracking” to Off

  • If you have iCloud+, then Private Relay will automatically be set to Off, when your device is on eduroam with “Limit IP address tracking” toggled Off.

"Private Wi-Fi address" set to Fixed and "Limit IP address tracking" toggled to Off

Step 7 - You can close System Settings

Outcome

Your MacOS device will connect better on USNH eduroam by setting a fixed private Wi-Fi address and turning off limits on IP address tracking, both of which are required on an organizational wireless network.
