Public Anyone in the organization can view and join. Self-service via Outlook
Private Only approved members can view content. Request access; owner approval required

 

How-To

Task: Join a Public Group in Outlook on the Web

Instructions

Step 1 - Open your Outlook on the web at https://outlook.office.com 

Step 2 - In the left pane, click Groups > Discover.

Step 3 - Browse or search for the group name.

Step 4 - Click the Group and select Join.

 

Outcome

You will be able to join a public group in Outlook on the Web

 

Task: Join a Public Group in Outlook Desktop App

Instructions

Step 1 - Open your Outlook desktop app

Step 2 - Navigate to the Groups section in the left folder pane.

Step 3 - Click Discover Groups.

Step 4 - Select the Group and click Join.

 

Outcome

You will be able to join a public group in the Outlook Desktop App

 

Task: Request Access to a Private Group

Instructions

If the group is private:

Step 1 - Follow Step 1 through Step 3 in either task above.

Step 2 - Select the Group and click​​​​​​​ Request to Join.

Step 3 - The group owner will receive a notification and must approve your request.

 

Outcome

You will be able to request access to a private group
