Task: This article describes how to import or copy course content from one Canvas course to another.
Instructions:
To Copy a Course:
A Canvas course can be copied forward from a previous semester or copied from a "Sandbox" course into a current course. The course copy option is found in the course Settings under the "Import Course Content" button.
- Log into your institution's instance of Canvas
- Select the course into which you would like to import content.
- In the course menu on the left, select Settings .
- Select " Import Course Content " from the right-hand menu.
- In the Content Type drop down menu, select the " Copy a Canvas course ".
- In the "Search for a course" field, search for your course by typing the course name into the field or selecting a course from the drop down menu. (Be sure to click the " Include completed courses " radio button if you wish to copy content from a course from previous semester.)
- Select the option to copy either all content or specific content. (If you select specific content you need to select the Import button to bring up the Select content option) See Canvas - Copy Specific Content from one course to another course for more details.
- Optional Step: Select the adjust dates option, if you are copying a course from a previous semester. See Canvas Course Copy - Adjust Dates for more details.
- Click the Import button.
- If you have selected to copy specific content click on the Select Content button to open a window to select the specific content.
- A message will appear that the copy process has started. When it is finished you will see a "Complete" message.
- Go to the Course Menu links to see your course content that has been copied.
Note: The current courses have different default Course Menu items then previous semester. These Course Menu items are: Zoom, Media Gallery, Lockdown Browser. If you copy a course from a previous semester you may have to re-enable these specific course menu links.
Outcome:
Users will be able to import or copy course content from one Canvas course to another.
