ArcGIS Installation and Licensing

Summary

This article describes how to access or install ArcGIS, using ArcGIS, how to get assistance with the application, and how to uninstall.

 

Background

Plymouth State University and the University of New Hampshire share a site license for ArcGIS and other products from ESRI.  These instructions are primarily intended for students who need access to the ArcGIS software, but they may also be used by faculty or staff who have basic needs.  

USNH users have access to two core ArcGIS products:

Important: As of August 1, 2024, ESRI no longer supports ArcGIS Desktop (a.k.a. ArcMap) Software and thus its licenses are no longer available.

 

ArcGIS Online

Task: Access and log into ArcGIS Online

Instructions

Step 1 - Browse to ArcGIS Online at:  https://www.arcgis.com/ 

Step 2 - Click “Sign In” 

Step 3 - Click “Your ArcGIS organization's URL” below the Sign In button.

Step 4 - Type “myunh” in the box front of “.maps.arcgis.com

  • Note: use "myunh" (no "s") regardless of which USNH school you attend
  • Optionally, check the box to "Remember this URL"

Step 5 - Click “Continue” 

Step 6 - Click “UNH Login”, regardless of which USNH school you attend.

Step 7 - If prompted, sign in with your usual username@usnh.edu, password, and MFA if required.

 

Outcome

You will be signed into ArcGIS Online.

Accessing ArcGIS Pro Software

There are two steps to running ArcGIS Pro, 1) Installing the application on your computer and 2) Licensing and running the software.
 
Installing ArcGIS Pro on your Computer:
1)       Follow the steps to login to ArcGIS Online as listed above.
2)       At the top of the page, click your username and click My settings.
3)       On the My settings page, click the Licenses side tab. ...
4)       Next to ArcGIS Pro, click Download ArcGIS Pro.
5)       Run the executable on your desktop and follow the prompts to complete the installation of the application.
 
Licensing and Running ArcGIS Pro Software:
 
Note that as of August 1st,2024, ESRI is no longer supporting single and concurrent use licenses to run ArcGIS Pro software. Licensed access to ArcGIS Pro software can now be acquired by logging directly into the application at start up with your UNH Ad Login and Password credentials as listed below.

1)     Click on the “Your ArcGIS organization's URL” option within the dialog box that appears.
2)     Add the prefix “myunh” or "plymouthstate" previous to the “.maps.arcgis.com” URL within the dialog depending on  your site.
3)     Click the “Continue” button.
4)     Click the “UNH Login” button in the dialog that appears.
5)     Enter your USNH AD Login and Password credentials as requested.
