Saving

As you are working in the SMART Notebook program, you may wish to save your work for a later time. Listed below are the steps to save your project:

  1. In the toolbar at the top of the screen, select the File option
  2. Choose the Select As... option (or Save if your project has already been saved)
  3. A pop up window will appear asking you to save your file to a designated folder on your computer
  4. Choose an appropriate folder, as this will be your storage area for the project file
  5. In the File name: text box, give your project a title
    • Notice the Save as type: field. This is your project file's extension. By default, your project will be saved as a .notebook file. This file will only open in the SMART Notebook program. For information on saving your project as a .PDF or .PPT file, please refer to the Export section below.
  6. When you are finished giving your file a name, select the Save button
  7. Your Notebook project has been saved

Exporting

Exporting is different than saving. When you export a project, you are changing the file format to something that can be accessed by non-Notebook users. By exporting your project, you can then share your file using common programs like Adobe Reader (.PDF) and Microsoft PowerPoint (.PPTX).

  1. In the toolbar at the top of the screen, select the File option
  2. Hover your mouse over the Export option to see a list of possible format choices
  3. Select one of these choices to export your project:
    • Web Page...: Saves your Notebook file as an .HTML web page
    • Image Files...: Saves your Notebook file as an image. You'll have several image file choices to choose from (.PNG, .JPEG, .GIF, and .BMP). You'll also be able to choose a file size (tiny, small, regular, and large).
    • PDF...: Saves your Notebook file as a .PDF document. This is non-editable document that both PC and Mac users can view. This option also allows for adding header/footers, page numbers, and using the popular "Handout" layout (adds lines for notetaking next to each Notebook page).
    • CFF...: Saves your Notebook file as a .IWB file. This file format is an interactive whiteboard common file format. This can be opened on several different kinds of interactive white boards.
    • PowerPoint...: Saves your Notebook file as a .PPTX presentation. This is the latest PowerPoint file, which can be opened on any version of PowerPoint.
  4. After selecting your file format of choice, follow the on screen prompts to save the file
