UNH: Student Experiences of Learning (SEL) (BLUE) - Filters to use when Checking Courses Associated to a DIG

Tags DIG filters

Summary

This article is for any DIG coordinator responsible for verifying their courses are all set and ready to be surveyed.  It will provide filters you can use in order to find courses meeting specific criteria to help you understand what courses may still need attention.

How-To

Task: Using the filter combinations below, identify courses that may need attention prior the DIG closing

Always remember to mark your courses as Reviewed = Yes

Instructions

Filter Option #1

Any courses with enrollment less than 6 and not cross listed with another course that brings total enrollment up to at least 6 may not be evaluated per UNH Faculty Senate decision to protect student anonymity.  Other USNH institutions may omit or vary this value based on their institutions rules.

  • Evaluate = yes
  • Student enrollment < 6
  • Cross-listed = [null]
  • Instructor enrollment <1
  • Cross listed ID is not empty
    • IMPORTANT: make sure your cross-listed = [null] filter is present  or you will be affecting courses that may meet enrollment threshold through total count of cross listed

Filter Option #2

This is something that could be used at the end to double check work

  • Evaluate=yes
  • Instructor enrollment <1

Filter Option #3

Review cross listings to be sure each is done correctly (main course is cross listed with itself and other courses are cross listed with the main course)

  • Cross listed ID is not empty
    • You will need to check that cross listings are correct and total student enrollments are >=6
    • Sort cross listed id ascending:

  • In the screen shot above, 202150-53320 is correctly cross listed with itself (it becomes the parent) and the other course (child) is cross listed back to the parent course 202150-53320
  • ·  Check that total student enrollment for each grouping adds up to >= 6
  • In the screen shot above, neither course has >=6 students but because of their cross listing, the total student count is 8 and therefore they can be evaluated.

Filter Option #4

All courses should be marked as Reviewed = Yes once fully complete with your DIG process.  This allows the admins to know if you have in-fact put eyes on the courses.

  • Reviewed = No
  • Evaluate = Yes

Filter Option #5

These filters will allow you to see any courses that have been set to Evaluate = Yes, but do not meet the minimum requirement for the number of students to be surveyed and are not cross-listed

  • Evaluate = Yes
  • Cross-listed ID = Empty
  • Group member Count = Students >= 5

Outcome

Users now have some filters that when used may show courses that need attention prior to the DIG closing.
