How-To

Task: Using the Whisper Room in the Parker Media Lab

Instructions

    • Turn on the lights in the room using the top on/off buttons on the remote stuck to the wall just outside the door

    • Airflow is important to consider when using the whisper room because the temperature will increase while you are using that space.

    • To turn on the two air circulation units and adjust their air flow rate find the two remotes attached to the inside left wall of the Whisper Room

    • Each time you press the button, the air flow will increase as indicated by the circular light pattern

    • Keep in mind as the air flow increases, the sound from the units outside the room may affect the inside noise

    • You may now close the door

    • Plug the USB cable from the microphone into your computer or the supplied adapter. If using the adapter, plug that into your computer

    • If prompted, allow any driver or software updates

    • Adjust the arm for the microphone so that the microphone is roughly one foot from your mouth and standing perpendicular, with the microphone grill on the bottom

    • Put on the headphones and ensure that they are plugged into the microphone

    • On your computer, open the recording program you wish to use

    • Select the Yeti microphone from available microphones in your recording program

    • Adjust the physical settings on the back of the microphone. A cardioid (heart shaped) polar pattern and a gain setting approximately in the center will be appropriate for most users doing podcasts, voiceovers, vocals or using an instrument

    • At this point, you should make a quick recording or two and play them back to ensure that the recording settings are appropriate for your application and make any adjustments necessary

    • Make your recording(s)

    • When you are done, unplug the microphone and remove your headphones

    • Turn off the air circulation units and lights

Outcome

Users will be able to successfully utilize the Whisper Room for audio recording.
