USNH Domains Support

Most answers to technical and support questions can be found in the USNH Domains Support Website. The support site contains answers to common questions, including how to set up a site, choose a domain name and install applications such as WordPress. Links to a few popular topics are below.

Getting Started

To get started, go to the USNH Domains Homepage and choose either the “Student Sites” or “Faculty & Staff Sites" button. Through the web hosting provider Reclaim Hosting, USNH Domains allows users to build WordPress sites, wikis, forums and more. For a full list of available applications, see Available Applications in Installatron

Choosing your domain name

Choosing your domain name is the first step in getting started with staking your claim on the web. Your domain name is a unique web address (e.g. yourname.usnh.domains) that can be used to build out your own digital presence. You should choose a domain name that you feel you can live with for quite some time. Be sure you won’t find the name embarrassing in the future. A good rule of thumb is to pick a domain that you would be comfortable putting on a future job application.

Working in your cPanel Dashboard

When you first sign up for your domain and hosting, a cPanel account will be generated that provides you with access to your slice of the web server. cPanel is software that offers a web hosting control panel. It provides a graphical interface and automation tools designed to simplify the process of installing and managing applications.

Installing Web Applications in Your Site

UNSH Domains makes it very simple to install certain web applications like WordPress or Drupal in your cPanel account. Web applications are just special software that run on a web server. Usually, they allow you to build and manage a website. The kind of site you can build depends on the type of application you install. More information about installing applications can be found on the support site.

What Can You Do with Your Account?

Space and Storage Considerations

USNH Domains accounts are allocated 1 GB of space. Keep this in mind as you install and build your website or application. You can check your available space by reviewing the disk usage statistics under the “General Information” section on the right-hand side of your cPanel homepage. Learn more about managing space in your account on the support site.

Keeping Your Site After Leaving USNH

If you are leaving USNH and would like to keep a copy of your site or application, you will need to export a backup of it. Hosting providers often allow for importing backups, enabling your applications to be active and available again. You can find instructions on making a backup here
