This article has instructions for how to find the device name on a Windows or MacOS device. 

The device name is a readable label assigned to each device connected to a network for identification purposes. Device names consist of letters, numbers, and special characters, and are typically used to differentiate devices within a local network. The format and length of device names can vary based on the system or network settings. 

 

How-To

Task: To find the device name on Windows devices

Instructions

Step 1 - From your task bar, select "Settings"

Step 2 - Select "System" tab

Step 3 - Scroll down and select "About" section

Step 4 - The computer's Device name will be displayed

Outcome

You should be able to find the device name of a Windows device.

Instructions

Step 1 - Click the Apple logo on the top left and select "System Settings..."
