Copilot Premium does not require a full meeting recording to generate many of its AI insights, though meeting transcripts significantly improve results.
Compared to Teams Premium, Copilot Premium includes Copilot Meeting Recap, which delivers AI‑driven insights such as contextual Q&A (“Chat with the transcript”), deeper topic reasoning, and more dynamic summaries. Copilot Premium also analyzes meeting chat alongside the transcript to provide more complete answers to follow‑up questions.
The cost is several hundred dollars per user which your department is responsible for. You can request using the USNH Provided or Licensed Software Request.
AI Transcript Option 2: Teams Premium and Intelligent Recap
Teams Premium adds Intelligent Recap, an enhanced AI layer on top of standard Teams transcription. Intelligent Recap automatically generates:
- AI‑created meeting notes
- Chapters and topic segments
- Action items and follow‑ups
- Speaker timelines
- Markers for mentions, screen shares, and join/leave points
Intelligent Recap requires the meeting to be recorded and transcribed, and it becomes available automatically to users assigned a Teams Premium license. Teams Premium also includes multilingual transcription and live translated captions to support global meetings.
The cost is $24.00 per user which your department is responsible for. You can request using the USNH Provided or Licensed Software Request.
AI Transcript Option 3: Free Method — Using Standard Teams Transcripts in Copilot Chat
Institutions without Copilot or Teams Premium licensing can still leverage AI using a free workflow:
- Enable Live Transcription in the Teams meeting (no premium license required).
- Export or copy the transcript after the meeting.
- Upload the transcript into the free version of Microsoft Copilot
- Summarize the meeting
- Extract decisions or tasks
- Draft meeting minutes
- Identify unresolved questions
This method provides no automated in‑Teams AI recap, but it allows anyone to manually analyze the transcript using Copilot’s general reasoning capabilities.
