Summary

This article has instructions for how to update wifi devices which connect to eduroam by a certificate, prior to a certificate change happening on Oct. 15, 2026. It includes detailed instructions for updating USNH-issued devices managed by USNH IT and links to how to update personal devices. This ONLY applies to devices which connect via certificate - devices which connect with username and password may need to approve the new certificate, but otherwise are unaffected.

This article is for USNH-Issued and managed devices.  For personal or non-managed devices, please follow the instructions in eduroam: Updating WiFi on a Personal Device before October 15, 2026.

What's happening

If your device connects to eduroam using a certificate from the USNH onboarding tool, it will stop connecting on October 15, 2026 unless you update it. Updating takes about 5 minutes.

The certificate that identifies the USNH Wi-Fi servers expires on October 15 and must be renewed. Our certificate provider has changed how its certificates are issued, and devices set up with the old method will not work with the renewed server certificate. Those devices will refuse to connect, even though nothing else about them has changed.

The fix is to replace your device's old eduroam setup with the new configuration. You can update this now by syncing your device in Company Portal following the steps below. You can follow these steps from anywhere with internet access — you do not need to be on campus.

How-To

Windows

Task: Sync your device in Company Portal to update the WiFi Certificate on Windows

Instructions

Step 1 - Click Start on your Windows task bar.

Step 2 - Type Company Portal and click Open in the search results.

Step 3 - Sign in with your USNH account (username@usnh.edu, like jbd2519@usnh.edu) if prompted.

Step 4 - In Company Portal, click Devices

Step 5 - Click on the tile labelled THIS DEVICE

Step 6 - Click the Check access button under Device Status.

  • You may be prompted to run Windows or other updates before you can sync successfully to update the certificate.

Step 7 - Wait for Company Portal to complete the check. It will tell you whether the device meets your organization’s requirements or whether something needs attention.

  • If the check completes successfully, then Company Portal shows the device as up to date, in compliance, and able to access company resources. That means the computer was able to communicate with the USNH Intune computer management system and update the certificate.

Outcome

You are able to sync your device through Company Portal on Windows which installs the updated WiFi Certificate that is needed before Oct. 15, 2026.

If you need assistance with the Certificate renewal or if you run into any trouble, please connect to your Campus-Open network (KSC-Open, PSU-Open, UNH-Open) temporarily and bring your device to one of our walk-up locations as soon as is convenient before October 15.

MacOS

Your MacOS device may require Admin credentials to update WiFi certificates.  Please try the steps below, but if you are prompted for Admin Credentials, just cancel out of the process.  If that happens, please temporarily connect to your Campus-Open network (KSC-Open, PSU-Open, UNH-Open) and bring your device to one of our walk-up locations as soon as is convenient before October 15.
