Summary

This article shows how to view and change Intune Device Categories and their purpose.

Explanation

Device Categories in Intune can be used to filter groups of devices.  Currently, they are being used to filter devices that need an M365 Device License and / or an Adobe Shared Device License.

How-to

Task: View and Change Device Categories and understand their purpose

Instructions

  • Institutional Device:  Any device that is a 1:1 user device.

  • Shared Computers M365 Apps: A device that has been added to the M365 Device License Group and / or the Adobe Shared Device License Group.  Note: These devices must still be added to these groups by Endpoint Engineering.  Please request this via ticket before changing the Device Category.

Step 4 - If you need to change the Device Category, such as after requesting an M365 Device License or Adobe Shared Device License from Endpoint Engineering, click the drop down, choose your Device Category, and click "Save".

Outcome
