These instructions will explain how to create a quiz that requires LockDown Browser and allow the use of Teams Meetings at the same time.

Note: students will be connecting to Teams Meetings through the web browser and will not use their regular university credentials. In this case, the instructor will need to admit all students into the meeting since their credentials will not pass them through automatically.

Considerations for use:

  1. The Teams Meeting link cannot be made mandatory
  2. There may be a captcha to complete that at times can be very difficult
  3. Meeting settings need to be set exactly, or it won't work
  4. Recording the meeting is possible

Instructor Setup:

  1. Create a Teams Meeting meeting and copy the invite link. We used the standard settings for the meeting.
  2. Create your quiz in Canvas.
    • The first question you add to the quiz should be of type Text (no question)
    • Insert your invite link from step 1 into this text field. It should look something like this: https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/LONGURL
    • Finish creating your quiz as usual.

  3. In your course, go to LockDown Browser. Click continue to LockDown Browser
  4. Find the quiz you just created and click its chevron, then click Settings.
    • Click the radio button for Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam
    • Click the + button next to Advanced Settings.
    • Check the box for Allow access to specific external web domains
    • In the field that says Enter one or more web domains, separated by commas, enter "teams.microsoft.com, microsoft.com"
      • This will allow people taking the quiz to access Teams and Microsoft links.
    • Click Save and Close.

Completing a Quiz as a Student:

  1. Launch LockDown Browser, access the quiz, and start taking the quiz.
  2. The first question in the exam will have a Teams Meeting link. Click this link.
  3. Make sure you opt to open the meeting from the Browser, Lockdown Browser will not allow you to open from the Teams App and will prompt you back to using a browser version.
  4. A second tab will open.
  5. Switch back to the quiz tab and take the quiz.
