Durham Fire Department: Installing Shared Printer on Windows (ETS Internal)

Summary

This article has instructions to add the Durham Fire Department's shared printer to a UNH-Managed Windows computer. This article is for Internal use by ET&S staff.

*NOTE* These instructions are only applicable to UNH-managed devices. You will not be able to add the printer this way on a non-UNH device.

*NOTE* These instructions are only applicable to Windows PC devices. If you are trying to add the printer to a MacOS device, submit a Printer Help request ticket to ET&S.  If you do, please specify that this is the Durham Fire Department shared printer.

 

How-To

Task: To Add the Durham Fire Department's shared printer to a managed Windows computer.

Instructions

Step 1 - Go to "Settings", "Bluetooth & devices", then "Printers & Scanners".

Step 2 - Choose the "Add Device" button.

Step 3 - After a brief pause, scroll until you see "The printer that I want isn't listed" and choose the "Add Manually" link

Step 4 - Choose "Select a shared printer by name" and enter the following into the box:  \\UWP-FDPRINT-01\servicedfdmultiroom . Click "Next"

Step 5 - Windows will display a progress bar. Once it has completed, you will see the following screen. Click “Next”.

*NOTE* If you are prompted to enter Administrator credentials, please notify Kelley Fowler and report on which device this happened on.

Step 6 - The next page presents you with the option to print a test page, to make sure the printer was installed successfully. This is optional but recommended.

Step 7 - Once that is done, click “Finish”.

The printer should appear as "servicedfdmultiroom on UWP-FDPRINT-01" in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners

Outcome

When the installation is complete, the Durham Fire Department shared printer will be available on the managed windows computer.
