Summary
Checking files in and out of a SharePoint document library helps prevent conflicting edits and ensures version accuracy. When a file is checked out, only the person who checked it out can make changes until it is checked back in. This article provides step‑by‑step instructions for checking out files, checking them back in, and discarding a check‑out if needed.
