UNH Parker Media Lab: Using the Lightboard

Task: Using the Lightboard in the Parker Media Lab
 

Instructions

  •

    • Turn on the One Button Studio and Lightboard using the two white pucks labeled as such on the side of the equipment rack. Do not turn on the Green Screen 

     

    • Use the control under the right side of the lightboard to raise and lower its height to your liking 

     

     

    • Press the Lightboard Button on the Stream Deck to prepare to record.

    • Adjust the camera’s pan and tilt to focus on the black curtain and lightboard using the Power Panner remote on the presenter’s table 

     

    • The camera’s zoom may be adjusted using the toggle button on the top of the camera

    • The idea is that by using pan, tilt and zoom, to get just the lightboard and the black curtain behind it in the frame of the camera 

    • Turn off any overhead lights that may wash out the lightboard or cause reflections during recording using the light switches at the rear or front of the room 

    • Using the three (3) control knobs on the right side of the lightboard, adjust the brightness to appropriately light both yourself as well as for the best highlighting of the marker. Experiment a little here by writing some 

    • Take the microphone and clip the long cylindrical part on your waistline or place it on the flat surface behind the lightboard and clip the microphone roughly 8-10 inches below your mouth. 

    •   

       

    • Start your recording using the Record button on the Stream Deck on the presenter’s table. There will be a several second countdown before the recording begins 

    • Stand behind the light board and present using the provided markers to share your annotations (the software will automatically flip the text to be correct to the viewer) 

    • You may pause the recording at any time by using the Pause button on the Stream Deck and continue the recording using the Unpause button 

    • When finished, stop the recording using the Stop button on the Stream Deck   

     

    Retrieving recordings: 

    • Turn on the overhead lights using the light switches at the rear or front of the room 

    • Click on the Video Recordings Shortcut on the desktop of the computer to locate your recording(s) 

    • Plug a thumb drive or external hard drive into either USB port on the top of the equipment rack 

    • Click on the USB Drive shortcut to open your drive and then drag your recording(s) to it 

    • When you are certain you’ve successfully copied your files, please delete your recordings from the hard drive of the computer 

     

     

    Shutting down: 

    • Turn off the system using the white pucks on the side of the equipment rack 

    • Using the provided cloth, please erase any writing on the light board 

 

Outcome

Users will be able to successfully utilize the Lightboard to record forward-facing, annotated presentations.
