CHHS: VALT Support Request Guidelines

Tags CHHS VALT

Summary

This article provides guidance for managing and requesting support related to the VALT (Video Audio Learning Tool) observing & recording software used by the College of Health and Human Services at UNH. It includes information regarding server requests, VPN access requests, AD group requests, and requests for support when equipment is not functioning properly.

Each department using VALT has an appointed VALT administrator; please reach out to them for questions and assistance.

Table of Contents

VALT Access & User Setup

VPN Access

To access VALT servers, users must be connected to the USNH Virtual Private Network (VPN) (Global Protect).

If a user does not have the VPN, follow the instructions in USNH VPN: General Information and Resources to install and configure the software.

AD Group Permissions

VALT access is managed using Active Directory (AD) groups. Each semester, make sure to add new users and remove those no longer needing access.

  • Submit changes using the Directory Services Request Form.
  • If you are unsure which group to use, you may provide the name of a user with similar access, and the Directory Services team can match it.
  • If you have several names to add and/or remove, please attach a spreadsheet to the request form with the following information: User's first and last name, username, UNH Nine-number (optional).

VALT Login Permissions

To view cameras and recordings in VALT, users need the correct permissions within the system.

  • These permissions are managed by your department’s VALT administrator
  • Be sure to add new users and remove inactive ones each semester to keep access up to date (see instructions below for adding new users).
  • If a departmental VALT administrator needs to be added or removed, make a request to the Enterprise Infrastructure Services - Operations & Project Requests team
  • Requests to add or remove departmental VALT administrators MUST be made by the current departmental admin or the Dean of the college

VALT Server & Software Support

Server Setup and Upgrades

For requests related to new VALT servers or upgrading existing VALT servers, put in a ticket with the Enterprise Infrastructure Services - Operations & Project Requests team. Please note:

  • ET&S Change Approval Board Approval Required: These requests must go through the ET&S Change Approval Board (CAB).
Submit at least 30 days in advance to allow time for review.

  • What Happens Next:
The Server Support team will submit a formal Request for Change and present it at the next CAB meeting.

  • Vendor Coordination:
Most upgrades involve the vendor. Be ready to join a remote session with all parties to complete the setup or upgrade. After the change is complete, the department contact must validate that the change was successful with your equipment in the field.

New Equipment & Software Installations

New Equipment Installations

When new VALT equipment is added, it must be registered on the UNH network. Submit a request via the Computer & Device Support form.  A technician will assist with registration and request a static IP if needed.

VALT Software Installations

Installation on USNH-managed devices requires admin credentials and is typically done via a remote support session. Submit a request via the Computer & Device Support form to schedule this.
