Summary

This article has instructions to manually add PaperCut queues to a managed MacOS device. Reasons this may be necessary include

  • adding a direct queue with a custom configuration or drivers,
  • if the automatically added “follow me” queues have been removed from the endpoint, or
  • if the “follow me” queues were not added automatically in the first place.

Unlike the automatic installation through JAMF, this method requires administrative privileges and may require assistance from a Client Services technician.

These instructions are only for managed devices where the user logs into the device with their institutional username. If the user is on a managed device but their username does not match their institutional username, or if the device is unmanaged, use PaperCut Mobility print instead of this method.

How-To

Before you begin

  • If you are on-campus, make sure you are connected to Eduroam (or wired Ethernet)
  • If you are off-campus, make sure you are connected to the VPN
  • Make sure you are logged into the institutional account that the user intends to print from on the device

Step 5 - Complete the following information based on campus where the printer is located:

KSC:

  • Address: kscap-pm04.keene.edu
  • Protocol: Line Printer Daemon – LPD
  • Queue: this is the case-sensitive name of the PaperCut queue you wish to add. To add the staff "follow me" queues, select one of the following.
    • Color_KSC
    • B&W_KSC
  • Name: it is recommended to copy the queue name to this field — if you specified the queue as "Color_KSC", the name should also be "UNH_COLOR_EMPLOYEE"
  • Location: Optional
  • Use: Specify the driver to use for this queue.
    • For the "follow me" queues select the built-in default "Generic PostScript Printer" driver
    • For custom queues, match the driver specific for the device. For example, if the custom queue prints to a Xerox VersaLink C7030 copier, specify that model driver.

    • For the "follow me" queues select the built-in default "Generic PostScript Printer" driver
    • For custom queues, match the driver specific for the device. For example, if the custom queue prints to a Xerox VersaLink C7030 copier, specify that model driver.

All information filled into the Add Printer dialog

Step 6 - If you have already configured a PaperCut queue on this device, a pop-up may appear warning you the printer already exists. Select "Continue" to continue.

Step 7 - A pop-up may appear asking to select options which may vary by driver. Optionally select options such as duplex when applicable and choose "OK" to continue.

Step 8 - When the connection is successful the screen will return to System Preferences, Printers & scanners.

Step 9 (Optional) - Open an application and print a test document to confirm the queue is operational. Remember in most cases you will need to release the test print job at the device before it will print.

Note: you can only add one queue at a time. Repeat steps 4-10 for each queue you wish to add.

Outcome

When the installation is complete, the queue(s) you specified will be available on the device.
