Some Docking Stations Must Be Registered

Symptom - Laptop can connect fine via wireless and when directly connected via ethernet, but once connected to a USB docking station the laptop will not connect to the network via ethernet.

Newer windows laptops (i.e. Dell Ultrabook) are too small to use with typical Dell docking stations.  Users often purchase 3rd party USB docking stations which have video, ethernet and keyboard/mouse usb connections.

Users must first find the MAC address of the device and use Non-Browser registration at https://networking.usnh.edu/nac/ 

If the MAC (hardware) address is not printed on the device, have them use ipconfig to discover the mac address.

     1. Connect laptop to the dock

     2. Click Start

     3. Type cmd

     4. Type ipconfig /all

     5. Look for the device in the list (there will be LAN, Wireless, Tunnel, etc.) but hopefully the brand of the device will be listed as well).

If the device is not connected to the pc, it can't show the MAC address of that device.

An SLA tech can log into https://networking.usnh.edu/nac/ to register the device by manually entering the MAC address.
