Summary
Starting in late October 2025, Microsoft began automatically installing the Microsoft 365 Companion Apps - People, File Search, and Calendar - on Windows 11 devices that already had Microsoft 365 desktop client apps installed.
These lightweight apps are integrated directly into the Windows taskbar and are designed to help you work more efficiently by providing quick access to everyday tools - without needing to open full applications.
