Summary

Adding a printer to your device means setting up your computer to send documents or files to a specific printer for printing. This article details two different options for mapping a network printer on Windows devices. 

 

How-To

Task: To add a printer using the Network Path

Instructions

Step 1 - Click the Windows button at the bottom left of your screen and type in \\printers2.plymouth.edu and then press Enter

Step 2 - In the window that opens up, double-click the printer that you want to map to.

Step 3 - A "Windows Printer Installation" window like the one below should appear once you double-click the printer you want to map

Step 4 - Once the printer has been successfully installed a window like the one below will open up. You can now print to the mapped printer normally.

Outcome

You have successfully mapped a network printer to your Windows device.

Task: To add a printer using the Control Panel.

Instructions

Step 1 - In the Search box in the lower left corner, type control panel

Step 2 - Click under the “Hardware and Sound” title the "View devices and printers"

Step 3 - Click "Add a printer" in the upper ribbon on the screen

Step 4 - Click the "The printer that I want isn’t listed" link under the list of devices

Step 5 - Click the radio button for "Select a shared printer by name"

Step 6 - Enter in \\printers2.plymouth.edu\<printer name> 

Step 7 - Click the Next button

Step 7 - You have the option to print a test page by clicking the "Print a test page" button or click the "Finish" button

Outcome

You have successfully mapped a network printer to your Windows device.
