Summary
There may be times when you need to retrieve a recording file from the computer that was used to make the original recording. This will most likely be necessary if something went wrong with the original upload. This article will walk you through navigating to a recording that was saved locally.
The following folders are included in the Capture Directory:
- Bin – includes the KalturaCapture executables.
- Logs – includes the application and UploaderService logs.
- Recordings – includes all local copies of your recordings.
- Settings – includes the application’s settings.
- setup – includes the KalturaCapture setup executables.
Please use the instructions below to find the local recordings, based upon what operating system you are using.
How-To
Windows
Task: To locate the Kaltura Capture file that saved locally on a Windows computer
Instruction
Step 1 - Right-click on the Kaltura Capture icon on the desktop.
Step 2 - Select Open file location from the context menu.
Step 3 - Go up one folder level to the Capture folder, or simply go to:
- C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Kaltura\Capture\
Step 4 - Look in the Recordings folder for the local copies of your recordings.
Important: Please be aware that during the recording process, Kaltura makes two separate files. There will be one file containing audio and the desktop capture and one file containing audio and the instructor recording. You may retrieve both of them but if you are uploading into My Media, you will not get the same picture in picture playback as if the video was completed and then uploaded from the Capture recorder.
Outcome
You will be able to locate the local copies of your recordings on your computer's hard drive.

Task: To locate the Kaltura Capture file that saved locally on an Apple MacOS computer
Instruction
Step 1 - Go to the Finder.
Step 2 - From the Go menu, select "Go to Folder."
Step 3 - In the form, enter ~/Library/Preferences/Kaltura/Capture/
Step 4 - Click "Go", or simply go to:
- /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Kaltura/Capture/
Step 5 - Look in the Recordings folder for the local copies of your recordings.
Important: Please be aware that during the recording process, Kaltura makes two separate files.
