Jamf Connect

Summary

Jamf Connect is tool that allows users' to log into their Macs using their USNH username and password without being bound to the USNH domain. This article introduces the user to the components of Jamf Connect.

 

Where Jamf Connect is Used

Jamf Connect began implementation at PSU in 2022 and is continuing to spread to other campuses and departments.

Jamf Connect is not (and cannot) be installed on personal devices or any non-university computers.

Jamf Connect Components

Login Screen

  • The first thing users will notice is that Jamf Connect replaces the usual Mac login screen with one that more closely resembles the Microsoft Single Sign On login screen.
  • Users will need to enter in their username@usnh.edu (fully qualified username, like jbd2519@usnh.edu) and click Next.

  • On the next screen, enter your USNH password and click "Sign in".

Wi-fi Connection at Login

With Jamf Connect, Mac users are now able to select and connect to a wi-fi network before logging into their computers.

  • The wi-fi icon is located on the top right hand corner of the screen.
    • *Eduroam at PSU is not currently configured to connect using this*

Local Login

If users are not connected to a network, the Local Login button will appear at the bottom of the screen.

  • The Local Login button can also be made to appear by turning wi-fi off using the blue switch in the Wi-fi Connection window (provided the mac is not also connected via a wired network connection).

  • Users can use the Local Login window to log into any account that has logged into the Mac at least once before.

Menu Bar 

Jamf Connect also adds a new icon and options to the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Connect...

  • This will turn on Jamf Connect and ensure that a user’s account/password are syncing.
  • It is not necessary to connect, and will already be connected if logged in using the Single Sign On and not the Local Login.

Change password...

  • This option will bring up a small window of the USNH password management web page.

Self Service

  • This will open the Self Service App.

About...

  • Gives information about Jamf Connect.

Quit Jamf Connect

  • Exits Jamf Connect.
  • It is not recommended to quit Jamf Connect as a user’s password will no longer be syncing.

Jamf Connect Pop-up

The Jamf Connect Pop-up window is the same window that opens when selecting the Connect option from the menu bar.

  • This window only pops up for one of two reasons:
    • When a user uses the Local Login option (this counts local administrator accounts as well!).
    • When a user's password has expired and Jamf Connect is trying to prompt the user to re-sync their password.
  • This window can be safely closed
    • If a user's Mac password and their USNH password are not synced they can use this sign in window OR logout and login using Jamf Connect to re-sync their password.
