Internet Explorer: Exporting Favorites or Bookmarks

Summary

This article has instructions for how to export your favorites or bookmarks from Internet Explorer to an HTML file, in order to be able to import them into another browser.

Task: To export favorites (or bookmarks) from Internet Explorer

Instructions

Step 1 – Open Internet Explorer.

Step 2 – Click the Star icon in the menu bar then click the downward arrow next to Add to favorites.

Step 3 – In the Import/Export Settings window choose Export to a file then click Next.

Step 4 – Make sure to check mark the Favorites box then click Next.

Step 5 – Highlight the Favorites folder then select Next.

"Select the folder that you want to export your favorites from" with the "Favorites" folder and "Next" marked.

 

Step 6 – Make a note of the location you are exporting the file to.  This is where you will find the exported file.

  • If you would like it saved somewhere else on your computer, select Browse and find the location where you would like it saved.  

Step 7 – Click Export then select Finish.

Outcome

You have successfully exported all your favorites or bookmarks from Internet Explorer to an HTML file.  You can import from that HTML file into a different web browser to have access to all the favorites or bookmarks in that other browser.  Or you can open the HTML file as its own web page and navigate to the favorites directly from that file.
