Locating Device Serial Number or Service Tag

This article explains how to locate the serial number on an Apple Mac or Lenovo device, or the Service Tag on a Dell device.

Locating a DELL Service Tag (Serial Number)

A Dell Service Tag is typically a 7-character alphanumeric code labeled as "Service Tag" or "ST" on the sticker.

The label is often a small, rectangular (sometimes with rounded edges) sticker. It includes other information such as the Express Service Code (a numeric version of the Service Tag), but the Service Tag itself is prominently labeled.

1. Laptops:
   • Dell Service Tag is usually on the bottom panel or inside the battery compartment (older models).
2. Desktops:
   • Dell Service Tag is often on the top, side, or back panel of the tower.
3. All-in-one computers:
   • Dell Service Tag is usually located on the back panel.

Locating an Apple Serial Number

Apple serial numbers usually consist of 12 or more characters that include both letters and numbers. They are labeled simply as "Serial Number" or "Serial No."

1. Mac Computers:
   • MacBook (Bottom Case): Turn over your MacBook and look for the serial number printed on the bottom case.
   • MacBook (Under Battery): For older models with removable batteries, the serial number may be located inside the battery compartment.
   • iMac and Mac Mini (Back Panel): Look on the back panel (Mac Mini) of the device or the bottom/ foot of the device (iMac)
2. iPhones and iPads:
   • SIM Tray: For some models, the serial number is printed on the SIM card tray.
   • Back of the Device: For older models, the serial number may be etched on the back of the device.

Locating a Lenovo Serial Number

Lenovo serial numbers are typically a combination of letters and numbers. They are labeled as "Serial Number," "S/N," or "SN."

1. Laptops:
   • Bottom Cover: The serial number is often found on a sticker on the bottom cover of the laptop.
   • Inside the Battery Compartment: For models with a removable battery, the serial number can be inside the battery compartment.
2. Desktops:
   • Back or Side of the Tower: The serial number is typically on a sticker located on the back or side of the desktop tower.
3. All-in-One Computers:
   • Back of the Monitor: Look for a sticker on the back panel of the monitor.
4. Tablets:
   • Back of the Device: The serial number is often on a sticker or etched on the back of the tablet.
