Summary

This article shows how to update a university issued Windows device after changing or resetting your password. This applies to all campuses.

It is important to update all of your computers and devices after you have changed your USNH password. Although some applications will prompt you for your new password there are occasions when you are not prompted and, without even knowing it, your device is making multiple attempts to connect to the campus network without success. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, your account will be locked as a security measure, designed to protect your account from unauthorized attempts.

How-to

Task: To update your University-issued Windows computer after changing or resetting your password

Once you have successfully changed your password via https://myaccount.microsoft.com, follow these steps to update your Windows computer.

Instructions

Step 1 - Lock your computer and log in with your new USNH Password

a. If you are On Campus (any) on a wired connection or connected to the Eduroam Wireless Network:

  1. Lock your computer (Ctrl+Alt+Del > Lock). Do not restart your computer yet.
  2. Unlock the computer using your NEW USNH Password. Do not use your PIN or other Windows Hello method to unlock the computer.
  • If you are prompted to log in with your PIN, click the Sign-in options link below the PIN input box.
  • Click on the "key" icon to bring up the Password input box.
  • Sign in using your NEW USNH Password.
  1. Reboot your computer and log in with your NEW USNH Password.
  • Next time you log in, you can choose the Sign-in options link below the Password input box to set it back to using your PIN (number pad icon).

b. If you are Off Campus:

  1. If you need to log into Windows, sign in with your OLD USNH password.
  2. Connect to the USNH VPN (GlobalProtect VPN) with your NEW USNH password. See GlobalProtect VPN: General Information and Resources for more information.
  3. Lock your computer (Ctrl+Alt+Del > Lock). Do not restart your computer yet.
  4. Unlock computer using your NEW USNH Password. Do not use your PIN or other Windows Hello method to unlock the computer.
  • If you are prompted to log in with your PIN, click the Sign-in options link below the PIN input box.
  • Click on the "key" icon to bring up the Password input box.
  • Sign in using your NEW USNH Password.
  1. Reboot your computer and log in with your new USNH Password.
  • Next time you log in, you can choose the Sign-in options link below the Password input box to set it back to using your PIN (number pad icon).

 

For any Windows Computers that you use to connect to any USNH services

Step 2 - Clear the Credential Manager

  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Credential Manager OR go to Start and type "credential manager" and open Credential Manager from the results
  • Look for any items associated with UNH, USNH services, or your specific campus domain (plymouth.edu, keene.edu, unh.edu, for examples)
  • Click arrow next to each item and select to "remove from vault" or "remove"

Step 3 - Check your browsers for saved passwords and clear them

a. In Internet Explorer: Go to Tools Internet Options General Tab Browsing History Delete make sure the box in front of saved Passwords is selected, click Delete

b. In Firefox: go to Tools Options Security Tab. Click Saved Passwords and remove any that are associated with your USNH Account

c. In Chrome: In the drop down menu on the right side of the address bar go to Settings, then on the left go to the Settings again. On the right side at the bottom, go to Advanced Settings, then go to Privacy. In the Passwords and Forms section go to Manage passwords

Step 4 - If your USNH Password is saved in any applications on mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablets, update these devices with your new USNH password.
