Changing phone numbers? Make sure to update your MFA settings!

If you are planning on changing the phone number that you use for multi-factor authentication (MFA) verification, be sure to install and set up the free Microsoft Authenticator App BEFORE you change your number:

Once you have registered the app with your account, you can use it for MFA verification using a passcode without the need for a phone number or SIM card.

After registering the App and changing your phone to the new number, be sure to update your MFA verification methods with your new phone number for SMS text messages or phone call.

Important: If you have already changed your phone number and do not have service to your old number, then you must call the Technology Help Desk or visit in person to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app on your new phone.

If you are planning on replacing a phone or mobile device that you use for multi-factor authentication (MFA) verification, be sure to both

A.  Install and set up the free Microsoft Authenticator App BEFORE you you move off your old phone or device:

B. Add or confirm your backup MFA verification methods BEFORE you move off your old phone or device:

After you have two or more MFA methods and have your existing phone number ported to a new phone or device, then you are ready to follow these steps:

​​​​​​Important: If you did NOT have a backup MFA method on your old phone, then you must call the Technology Help Desk or visit in person to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app on your new phone.
