Kaltura: Editing Captions in a Video

Summary

This article reviews all functionality for Captions in Kaltura, you will be able to work with captioning in Canvas, MediaSpace, and more.

Captions

Captions are, for the most part, machine generated in Kaltura. This process is handled by Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) technology, and is about 80% accurate. The remaining errors can be corrected by hand. This process is not immediate, and captions will take some time to appear. If you rip the video from a DVD or download from another location, captions may already be available.

The overall process of creating a captioned video consists of:

  1. Uploading to Kaltura
  2. Requesting captioning if necessary
  3. Correcting/editing captions:

The Understanding Captions and Captioning Workflow outlines a variety of starting points for video and the steps to get those videos captioned.

This article guides you through the captioning options noted below.  Click on any of the links to navigate to the section you would like to learn more about.
