This article describes how to add a Guest Lecturer to a Canvas course. If your guest lecturer is not a USNH employee and does not have a USNH ID (9 digit number), then you must first request a USNH "sponsored" account.
How-To
Request a Sponsored Account
In order to add a Guest Lecturer to your course, you must first request an USNH 'sponsored" account for this person.
Follow the steps detailed in the KB article Sponsored User FAQ.
After you receive the Guest Lecturer "sponsored" account id, proceed to the next step of adding the guest to your course.
Task: Add Guest to Canvas
Instructions
Instructors are able to manually add people in their course. When adding a user to your course, enter their USNH ID (9 digit number), or USNH username. DO NOT enter the email address. The unique USNH ID or username will locate the person and automatically populate their name and email address.
Step 1 - Navigate to the appropriate course and in the Course Menu, click People.
Step 2 - Click on the People button, enter the Sponsored Account's new USNH ID or user name.
Step 3 - Separate each user by a comma if you are adding multiple people.
Step 4 - Select the role and course section/s to which the guest should be assigned.
- To determine the best role for the guest lecturer, read this article that details the permissions for each role: User Roles and Permissions
Notes:
- Do not enter the guest lecturer email address as Canvas needs to locate the person using the guest lecturer's unique identifier (ID Number or username). The guest lecturer's name and default Canvas email address will automatically be added to the course.
- The guest lecturer will be sent an email, inviting them to join the course.
- See this Canvas guide article How do I add users to a course? for further instructions.

You will be able to add a Guest Lecturer to a Canvas course.
