Best Practice for Respondus LockDown Browser

If you choose to use Respondus LockDown Browser here are some recommendations you can opt to utilize in your course.

  • A best practice is using lockdown browser in a proctored environment.
  • Create a practice test or test(s) using Respondus Lockdown Browser, and have students take it
    • To ensure your first exam with LockDown Browser runs smoothly, have students take a few low stakes quizzes that require the use of LockDown Browser.
    • Ideally, have students use the same computers/devices they'll use with the graded quizzes, including the same network/Wi-Fi environment.
    • One option is to leave a quiz available for the duration of the course, with unlimited attempts, so students can access it again if they use a different computer or Wi-Fi network.
  • Communicate to students in multiple places that your course requires Respondus Lockdown Browser for your course exams, and provide clear instructions
  • Provide a link for students to download Lockdown Browser within your course
  • Computer Lab systems have the Lockdown Browser installed. This is an option for student who are not able to install it on their own device.
  • It is supported on Windows, Mac, Chromebook and the iPad.
    • It does not work on Linux O/S
    • It does not work on smartphones
