EAB Navigate360: Population Health Analytics Overview

Tags analytics
Task:  Understand basic functionality and navigation within the EAB Population Health Analytics area with this article.

Instructions:

  1. Using the left hand navigate bar, click on Analytics
  2. There are 4 specific areas where users can look at information, this article will focus on the Population Health Dashboards:  Assess the health of selected student populations and identify intervention opportunities using key academic performance metrics like GPA and credit completion.

Population Health Dashboard:

There are 3 tabs at the top of this Dashboard that provide information in slightly different manners.  Overview, Academic Performance and Academic Progress

Using Filters on Dashboards:

Filters can be used to narrow information based on a number of different criteria in the system such as Tags, Classification (grade level) and Categories.  There is no limitations on the number of filters a user can select.

By default the system includes "All" students enrolled in the current semester as denoted by the "Enrolled In"  filter at the top.

NOTE: by default the system includes students that are "IN" a Tag or Category.  This can be toggled to "NOT IN"

Example, If I choose the following filters, I can narrow results based on Category = "First Generation", Tag = "Alert Spring '22", Classification = "Freshman"

Alerts/Referrals within the Tag area correspond to any student that received a "below average" notation during the Progress Report Period for that semester.

Drilling Down

Most values on the dashboards allow users to drill down to get additional information on that specific metric.

  1. Users can use the 3 ellipses buttons at the top of the page to export or download the information shown on page.  Outputs are PDF, XLSX, CSV
  2. There are also controls in the upper right corner that will allow users to see this information in graphical representations such as line graphs, bars graphs or pie charts

Overview

This area allows users to see the total student population broken out based on different GPA groupings, and Credit Completion.  Use the filters on the left side of the page to filter based on information included in the system.  The system defaults to showing information based on the current semester. As the user makes changes to the filters on the left side and chooses Apply, the values in the dashboard will update.

Academic Performance Dashboard:

This dashboard provides users with information about the student population in terms of GPA based on the filters the user has selected on the left of the page.  The system breaks down the student population based on GPA as well as the difference between Term GPA and Cum. GPA.

GPA Metrics:

  1. Cumulative GPA may include transfer credits. This setting is configured by your institution. For more information, contact your strategic leader.
  2. Difference Between Last Enrolled Term GPA and Cum. GPA will show Students grouped by the difference between the last Term GPA they earned and their Cumulative GPA. If a student's last Term GPA is much lower than their Cumulative GPA, it may be a sign that they are struggling and need assistance.
  3. Course Performance users will be able to see Students grouped by the total number of D and F grades earned at your institution. This number may differ from their student profile in Navigate, where we calculate the number of courses a student has earned D and F grades in, rather than the raw number of D/F grades.

Click on any of the number values to drill deeper into that metric and see the students that make up that number.

Academic Progress Dashboard:

The dashboard provides users with information regarding credits earned.  The users can see the number of students based on:

  1. Credit Completion Percentages ( Credits attempted and earned at other institutions are excluded.)  as well as Total Earned Credits, Students grouped by their number of lifetime earned credits. This may or may not include credits from other institutions; this setting is configured by your institution.
  2. Just below that is information pertaining to Attempted Credits and the number of students associated with each value.
  3. Course Progress will show Students grouped by the total number of times they have withdrawn from courses at your institution.
  4. Number of repeats will identify Students grouped by the total number of times they have repeated courses at your institution.
  5. Major Switching information has Students grouped by the total number of times they have switched majors at your institution.

Again, by clicking on any of the values in dashboards users can drill down to get a list of students that make up the value shown.

Outcome:

Users should now be able to navigate, change filters, drill down and export information as required in Population Health Analytics
