Installing Updates on Intune Managed Workstations
This article shows how to install Windows Updates from Settings on Intune managed Windows workstations.
Windows will automatically install updates on your device as it has in the past but you can manually install them following a few steps.
Step 1 - Click the Windows button and type Settings when you are prompted to search. Open Settings when it shows up as a search result.
Step 2 - Click Update and Security then Windows Update if on Windows 10, or Windows Update if on Windows 11.
Step 3 - Click Check for Updates. This may take a moment to find available updates. You may be asked to restart your computer following updates.
Windows Update Restart Notifications
When Windows Updates are installed automatically, you will notice that the restart messages have changed to look like the following depending on your operating system. This will let the user know how long they have before the computer is restarted for Windows Updates, although they can restart at any convenient time before that.
Windows 10:
Windows 11:
Application Restart Notifications
Application Restart Notifications will look similar to the image below. You will be able to defer the application update 3 times by clicking the "Snooze Update" button before the application will update itself. The total time that the application can be deferred is 24 hours. To close all applications and update, please click the "Close All and Update" button. Software updates should be quick, and shouldn't last longer than 15 minutes, with most lasting less than that.
