Task:
This article describes the External Apps (LTI Tools) that have been enabled for Canvas as well as the process for requesting that a specific application be enabled.
Instructions:
What is an External Application?
An External Application is a learning resource or application that adds functionality or a specific learning path to a Canvas course. There are currently several External Applications available that can be easily used in your course. Some of the locations where External Applications can be used are:
- Course Menu
- Rich Content Editor
- Modules External Tools link selection
- Assignment External Tools link selection
- Homework Submission
To view where a specific application is available for use, go to the course Settings, then to the Apps tab, select View App Configurations, and select the "i" to the right of the application name.
Canvas External Application Approval Process
Please see our knowledge base article, Canvas: Requesting a Canvas Learning Tool Interoperability (LTI) to find out more about the current process.
Support
Please note that ET&S does not directly support many of the LTIs that move forward through this process. LTI support for students often comes direct from the vendor, it’s important to understand their support model for students. We encourage faculty and staff to consult with our Learning, Design and Technology team and/or your campus’ Instructional Designers before investing time and resources in third-party tools.
If an LTI is marked as ET&S Support you can seek troubleshooting support and/or training requests through ET&S.
From start to finish the review process can take 6 months. We recommend that you start this process a full semester in advance of instructional use.
