Qualtrics: Getting Started with Qualtrics Survey Tool

Summary

This article provides Introduction to Qualtrics, USNH’s online survey tool including first-time account setup and support. Qualtrics is available to faculty, students, and staff at PSU and UNH .  Contact info for KSC users to request access is also provided.

 

Possible Use Cases

Microsoft Forms or Qualtrics

We have both Microsoft Forms and Qualtrics. Below is a list of possible use cases and when you should consider creating or migrating surveys to Microsoft Forms instead of using Qualtrics, and use cases where you should consider using Qualtrics for surveys instead of Microsoft Forms. We recommend choosing the appropriate technology tool for the appropriate use case. 

Microsoft Forms is best for:

  • Simple Surveys and Polls
    • Quick feedback from students or faculty.
    • Event RSVPs.
    • Simple opinion polls.
       
  • Basic Data Collection
    • Sign-up sheets.
    • Contact information forms.
    • Basic feedback forms.
       
  • Integration with Microsoft 365 
    • Forms embedded in Teams for quick surveys during meetings.
    • Data collection that needs to be analyzed in Excel.
    • Forms that need to be shared within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
       

Qualtrics is best for: 

  • Advanced Surveys and Research
    • Detailed academic research surveys.
    • Longitudinal studies.
    • Surveys requiring complex logic and branching.
       
  • Experience Management
    • Campus climate surveys.
       
  • Complex Data Analysis
    • Surveys requiring advanced analytics and reporting.
    • Data collection that needs integration with statistical software.
    • Surveys with open-ended questions requiring text analysis.

 

How-To

If you are a first-time Qualtrics user, follow the steps below for setting up your account. Each institution has unique instructions. 

 

Task: To set up a new  Qualtrics account at PSU

Instructions

Step 1 - Go directly to: https://survey.plymouth.edu  

Step 2 - Use your standard PSU credentials to log in, this will also create an account for you if you have never logged in

Your Qualtrics account has been set up.

Task: To set up a new  Qualtrics account at KSC

Instructions

Step 1 - Qualtrics is managed at Keene by the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment  

Step 2 - Requests for Qualtrics Surveys can be made using this form Request to Conduct an Electronic Survey of Keene State College Students

Task: To set up a new  Qualtrics account at UNH, CPS, UNH Law, and USNH

These instructions are for UNH, the College of Professional Studies (CPS), UNH Law, and the USNH System Office.

Instructions

Step 1 - To access Qualtrics go to: https://survey.unh.edu/  

  • All UNH students, faculty, and staff are permitted to use the service for coursework, research, and all other University-related business.

Step 2 - Skip down to "Click Create New User"

Your Qualtrics account has been set up.

Task: To set up a new  Qualtrics account from Outside USNH

Important:  The first time you log in, you will be asked if you have an existing Qualtrics account (perhaps from another institution). If you do, and ONLY if you would like to merge it with your new USNH Qualtrics account, please select Yes. The majority of users will select No to this question. Here are the steps you will follow for a new account (answering No):

Instructions

Step 1 - Click Create New User. A window will display the following fields:

  • Username
  • Email - fill in the field with your email address using your alias (ie. first.last@institution.edu)
  • Fill in the First and Last names

Step 2 - Terms and Conditions will display. Click Agree.

Step 3 - You should be brought to the Projects page so you can begin creating a survey project.
