General Transition Information

  • Microsoft is ending support for the Teams Classes and Teams Meetings LTIs on Monday, September 15, 2025. These is being replaced by a new unified experience.
    • Microsoft Education LTI debuts with replacements for the deprecated Team Classes LTI  and Teams Meetings LTI by 9/15/2025. The capabilities of the current OneDrive LTIs will be supported as their capabilities transition through 2026. Additional feature availability within the LTI is subject to review and evaluation.
    • Microsoft Education LTI replaces the former Teams Classes LTI tool and Teams Meetings LTI Tool with an improved user experience. Users can easily manage and launch their Course Team and Teams Meetings from directly within their LMS course in one united location.
  • Additionally, all enrolled with course roles will be either an Owner (Teacher, Leader, TA, Designer) or Member (Student, Observer).
  • You need to be enrolled in the course be part of the course’s Teams instances and running a sync pushes new enrollments (it runs updates per hour scanning enrollments, can take up to 24 hours)
  • Existing Teams Meetings will not persist in the New LTI, in order to have meetings appear in Canvas you will have to reschedule with the new LTI. Old meetings will not disappear, they will just not move to the new LTI. Our best practice recommendations are below in the Transition Action Steps for Teams Meetings and Teams Classes LTIs.

Transition Action Steps Teams Meetings

If you utilize Teams Meetings within Canvas on or after Monday, September 15th please follow the following steps.

1. Cancel your previously scheduled meetings from Outlook or the Teams Application in the calendar.

2. Reschedule them in the new Microsoft Education LTI in Canvas. We also recommend having a slightly different name to the new series. For example if your previous series was called Class X Meeting you might call this new meeting or series New - Class X Meeting .

Instructions are further below for using the new Microsoft Education LTI. You would need to know the date and time of the scheduled meetings. If this was a series, make sure to edit the entire series.

Understanding Microsoft Education LTI

Microsoft Education has officially launched the new Microsoft Education LTI tool, streamlining how faculty interact with Microsoft tools inside Canvas. This update replaces the legacy Teams Meetings and Teams Classes LTI tools, which will be retired. USNH will be replacing it with the new unified Microsoft 365 LTI tool. The new Microsoft Education LTI should include any of your previously included Microsoft items (Meetings and/or Teams).

The new Microsoft 365 LTI brings together popular education tools — Teams and Teams Meetings — into a single integration.

Teams Functionality Outline

The Teams app helps you and your students navigate between Canvas and Teams.

Users can access the course team right through the Microsoft Education dashboard for the course.

NOTE: You'll need to sync enrollments before you use the tool.

Team Meetings Functionality Outline

The Teams Meetings app incorporates Teams Meetings into Canvas. Faculty and students can view upcoming and past meetings, find and play meeting recordings, schedule individual or recurring meetings, and easily join meetings related to the course, all from within Canvas.

Once enabled the menu will look similar to this
