Body
Task: This article describes how to check for and install updates to the Zoom desktop client.
Instructions:
Zoom is a video conferencing software that allows for real-time video and audio communication in events such as meetings, lectures, webinars, and training sessions. Please follow this link for an overview of Zoom.
Zoom periodically releases software updates. You may be prompted automatically to install a new update when you use Zoom, but you can also check yourself and install any updates on demand. Installing the latest Zoom software when it comes out assures you get access to the latest Zoom features enhancements along with any security or other bug fixes.
- USNH Users on Managed computers will not need to manually update. Updates will be pushed to your computer automatically from ET&S.
- USNH users not on Managed computers will need to go through the process outlined below on a regular basis to ensure they are on the most updated version.
Checking for Updates
To see what version you are currently running and to see if any new Zoom client software is available, use the Check for Updates feature built into the program.
- Open the Zoom desktop application. You will not be able to update your client from the USNH Zoom application in your web browser.
- PC Users - Search Zoom in the start menu or applications.
- If you are not logged into the desktop client, you will be prompted to Sign In first.
- Select Sign In with SSO
- Enter the institution you are affiliated with as the company domain and click continue.
- keeneFor Keene State users: enter
- For Plymouth State users: enter plymouthstate
- For University of New Hampshire users: enter UNH, CPS
- Log in to the USNH logon page with your USNH username and passphrase
- After signing on, click on your photo or initials in the upper right-hand corner. If you do not see the image below, you are not in your desktop client.
- Select Check for Updates.
The window that opens will show the number of your currently installed version. If the message You are up to date is displayed, there are no new updates. Otherwise, buttons will be displayed to let you update the software and see the new enhancements.
There is never an update to Zoom if you join meetings from within a web browser.
Installing the Latest Zoom Update
After going through the Check for Updates process above, click the Update Now button to download and install the latest Zoom software on your computer. The update process should happen automatically with no additional interaction needed.
If you are ever in doubt, you can also always go to zoom.us/download to directly download an installer for the latest Zoom software for any device. Run the installer once downloaded to update your computer. For more information about updating Zoom, see Zoom's own support article on downloading the latest version.
Outcome:
The user should understand how to check for and install updates for the Zoom desktop client.
