Summary
MediaSpace allows users to upload, manage, and share media. Media may be shared in a variety of ways with others at our institutions and with the public. This article describes how to publish and share media in MediaSpace.

Understanding the Publish Options
By default, uploaded media is not published and is set as Private. All Private videos will have that label shown over them when you are viewing your My Media collection. If you wish to share media you have uploaded, you have options to choose from:
Private - Media page will be visible to the content owner only and no one else even if they have a direct link.
Unlisted - The media is not shown in any channel or category within the MediaSpace website, and it cannot be found by searching by title, description, or tags, but it is accessible to anyone who has the direct link to that media item. This is useful when you wish to share an item with people outside of your institution but don’t want the item broadly viewed.
NOTE: Sharing an item as Unlisted does not protect the confidentiality of that item. If people with whom you share the link share it with others, then those people can also access the item.
Published - The media is visible to other users and can be seen or found by searching, based on which channels or categories it is associated with. Items published to Private channels can only be seen by other channel members. Items in Open channels can be seen by all your institution's account holders, but not by the general public. Task: To share an item as Unlisted
Instructions
Step 1 - On your My Media page, locate the item you wish to share and click on its title to view that item.
Step 2 - From the Actions menu, select
Step 3 - Choose Unlisted from the set of choices.
Step 4 - Click Save.
Step 5 - Click the Share button below the media item to be taken to a screen that will provide the direct URL to this item's page.
Step 6 - Copy the Link to Media Page and share that with your intended audience via email, posting on a web page, linking to on social media, etc.
Outcome
Your media is published with an "unlisted" status, it can be viewed by anyone who has a direct link to this page.

Task: To share an item as Published
Instructions
Step 1 - On your My Media page, locate the item you wish to share and click on its title to view that item.
Step 2 - From the Actions menu, select Publish.
Step 3 - Choose Published from the set of choices.
Step 4 - You will be presented with a display of the categories and channels to which you have the rights to post media items. Click the check boxes next to one or more channels.
Step 5 - Click Save.
Outcome
Your media is published with a "published" status, anyone entitled to the published destination can see it.

Task: To stop sharing an item
Instructions
Step 1 - On your My Media page, locate the item you wish to share and click on its title to view that item.
Step 2 - From the Actions menu, select Publish.
Step 3 - Choose Private from the set of choices.
Step 4 - Click Save.
Step 5 - You may be prompted to confirm that you want to stop sharing this item. If so, confirm that by clicking OK.
Outcome
Your media is set to "private," it is no longer visible to others and cannot be accessed by anyone.
